Our proposal for a new OCT Headquarters in Kunming aimed to stitch a hybrid program with an encompassing landscape. In partnership with Delineator Design, a seamless landscape and pathway network lead into an architecture that splits, creating a community focused core that channels breezes from off the bay. The project was recognized this year by the ASLA Texas.

The program was complex; a hotel with conference center, residential units, retail, and the headquarters itself. We arranged the stacking of this program to foster the most interaction within the tower as well as to respond to the city itself. OCT’s offices were placed atop, with an innovation center at the peak of the tower that showcases the energy of the company to Kunming.

What can be learned here is the benefit density can play when carefully orchestrated with the environment. We also found that shallower depths and the community core can work together to create meaningful access to daylight, ventilation, and views without compromising efficiency.
