Adjacent to a new transit node on the city’s western edge, the Life and Tech Campus is an envisioned as an announcement of the Xi’an’s commitment to human driven innovation. The over 140,000 sqm of program with supporting infrastructure, planned in a traditional sense, would have dominated the site with new built environment. In contrast to a typical, tower driven development the team opted to maximize open coverage on the site. The campus would be defined by its connection to nature.

Using a series of stacked bars that visually unfold from the tower punctuating the northeast, urban developed corner, the program defines edges an encompasses a large connective green. The buildings take up only 28.4% of the site area. Infrastructure stresses alternate, public modes. On-site parking and services remain on the perimeter or beneath the green space.
